Fall is some of the best weather of the year as well as the harvest season. No big surprise that there are plenty of food events to celebrate both.
The Kaw Valley Farm Tour will be held this weekend in Lawrence.
Fourteen farms are opening up their doors to visitors, including a couple in western Johnson County and on into Douglas County. These are very diverse, including wineries, goat dairies, bison and elk ranches, vegetable and berry farms, bee keeping, bedding plant production, mushroom culture, and an experiment station where high tunnel research and extension is ongoing. The tour includes a hay ride and activities for kids. It will be held both Oct. 6 and 7, from 10 am to 6 pm.
There is a registration cost per vehicle of $10. Tickets may be purchased at any of the participating farms and allow access to all. Here is more information on the event.
Food is Elementary© Food Educator Training
This two-day course will be offered by the Food Studies Institute, KC Healthy Kids, and KC Faces of Food on October 19-20, 2007.
The training program enables its graduates to teach a hands-on, sensory-based nutrition curriculum for schools and school-aged children.

A Slow Food Harvest At Historical Round Hill Barn, November 4, 2007
The Kansas City convivium is encouraging local producers to not only bring samples and information for our Slow members, but also offer your products for sale at our next Fall Harvest gathering.
Each farmer will given space to showcase their product and there is no charge to exhibit. It will be a pot luck, there is plenty of food, you can bring a dish if you like, but certainly do not have to. We are expecting between 50-75 members to attend.
There is no charge to Food Circle and Growing Grower members or local artisan producers or farmers to exhibit. This is a great opportunity to meet our Slow Food members, locals who actually share your values and want to show their support.
Set up time is between 3:00 and 3:30 PM at Round Hill Barn, 8932 Maple Circle in Overland Park, KS. The event will run from 3:30 until 6:30 or so. Contact Jasper Mirabile at 816.941.6600 for more information.
